Things people get wrong

Half of what people “know” about Forever came from a boost-site article, a tweet, or a memory of 2019 Classic. Some of it is wrong in ways that cost real time: a saved 100 gold for a mount that is priced differently, a dungeon run for XP that is not there, a whole addon setup that will not load. This page lists the myths we keep hearing, states the truth as far as it is known, and names the source, so nobody has to argue from memory. Entries are grouped by area; a myth is listed even when the truth is “unknown,” because “unknown” beats a confident wrong number.

“The 10 and 20 player raids open on launch day, only Onyxia waits until December.”

Section titled ““The 10 and 20 player raids open on launch day, only Onyxia waits until December.””

Truth: All three launch raids, Barrow Deeps (10), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia’s Lair (40), open on December 9, 2026, five weeks after launch. The Nov 4 claim came from one fan article written before the roadmap was read closely; developers at the Sept 17 Q&A explained the five-week window as deliberate. The unlock hour is unannounced. verified Source: Blizzard What’s Next recap (“New raids unlock on December 9”); Blizzard Watch roadmap transcription; wowsod.pro Q&A recap. See Raids overview.

“The new mid-level zone is called Riverlands.”

Section titled ““The new mid-level zone is called Riverlands.””

Truth: It is Riverglades. Every official source, including Blizzard’s client data and warcraft.wiki.gg, spells it Riverglades. Early guild material used the wrong name; use Riverglades everywhere. verified Source: https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Riverglades. See Leveling overview.

Truth: Four: Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Shen’dralas and Mount Hyjal. Shen’dralas gets dropped from summaries because Blizzard has not given it a level range. verified Source: https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/World_of_Warcraft:_Forever

Truth: A fan map lists Gilneas as a region and Blizzard named it among “creative opportunities” alongside Grim Batol and Uldum. No level range, no quests, no Blizzard statement that it has launch content. Vapor for launch. unverified Source: foreverchanges.pro map; wowsod.pro zones article.

Truth: Early Name Reservation (Oct 27 to Nov 3, three characters per account) is “included with any upgrade purchase.” The $29.99 Heroic Pack qualifies; a plain subscription does not. verified Source: Blizzard pre-purchase post 24301508; Blizzard forum post 2358043. See Names.

Truth: Everything in beta is wiped before launch. Whether beta Legacy points survive is ambiguous because Legacy is account-wide, but plan on zero. verified Source: Blizzard beta post 24304160.

“Hardcore is at launch” or “Hardcore is in winter.”

Section titled ““Hardcore is at launch” or “Hardcore is in winter.””

Truth: Blizzard says only “post-launch.” Fan sites say winter or early 2027; the published roadmap through Summer 2027 does not name a Hardcore date. verified Source: Deep Dive recap; Blizzard Watch roadmap. See Rulesets.

“Forever is basically a private server” or “Turtle WoW is still an option.”

Section titled ““Forever is basically a private server” or “Turtle WoW is still an option.””

Truth: Forever is a first-party Blizzard product. Turtle WoW lost on all seven claims in April 2026 and went offline in May; Stormforge and Ascension were also shut down in 2026. verified Source: https://www.pcgamesn.com/world-of-warcraft/turtle-wow-cease-and-desist; Massively OP on Ascension. See What is Forever.

“There’s a WoW Token and paid boosts.”

Section titled ““There’s a WoW Token and paid boosts.””

Truth: “No plans for anything like a WoW Token or a boost,” per Associate Production Director Clay Stone. unverified Source: Wowhead 382882 (Destin interview), body JS-only, corroborated by masterofwarcraft.net.

Truth: Wowhead published that and retracted it: “No changes to experience values in WoW Forever compared to Classic.” The “reduced” table was the original 1.12 table. verified Source: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/experience-requirements-significantly-reduced-in-wow-forever/2357330. See Leveling overview.

“Dungeon spam is the fastest way to level, like 2019.”

Section titled ““Dungeon spam is the fastest way to level, like 2019.””

Truth: A Blizzard developer said dungeon kill XP was “brought way down” and dungeon quest XP made “much, much, much higher.” Beta measured 9 to 18 XP per elite in Ragefire Chasm and nearly three levels from the six Ruins of Lordaeron quests. Run each dungeon once with the quests, then leave. verified Source: wowforeverbuilds beta XP article quoting Blizzard forum threads; zockify dungeons page. See Dungeons.

“Every starting zone got dozens of new quests.”

Section titled ““Every starting zone got dozens of new quests.””

Truth: The beta client datamine shows 2 new quest markers in Elwynn and 8 in Westfall. The 1,000+ new quests are concentrated in the new zones and dungeons, not sprinkled evenly. verified Source: wowforeverbuilds 1,795-quest datamine article.

Truth: Blizzard moved the cost into riding training and gives the first mount free with the skill. Two designers said training “costs 100 or 1,000 gold depending on the level.” The levels are unpublished; 40 and 60 are inferred from beta mount data. Any other figure is a guess. verified Source: Wowhead 382963 recapping the Sportskeeda interview; wowforeverbuilds mounts page. See Leveling overview.

Truth: Forever adds horizontal set bonuses that pair low-level items with endgame ones; the Deadmines First Mate Band combines with an endgame ring for a two-piece bonus. Bank them until you know. verified Source: mmoexp beta update article (loaded 09-24).

Truth: No Blizzard text says that. What is documented: the Leatherworking Camp Tent tops up rested XP to 5% of a level, the Legacy perk Well Rested raises rested gains, and the Cozy Sleeping Bag gives 3% XP for two hours. verified Source: Wowhead camping guide; foreverchanges cooking recipes. See Camping.

Truth: Senior designer Josh Greenfield: SoD-style Shaman and Warlock tanks are “not quite yet” in Forever, “never say never.” There is no taunt, no mail tank gear pipeline, and zero beta dungeon tank reports with numbers. Spirit Weapons and Anticipation exist; a tank role does not. verified Source: GameSpot and PC Gamer interviews (Sept 16), relayed by wowforeverbuilds; Blizzard forum threads with no blue reply. See Shaman.

“You need a Dwarf Priest for Fear Ward and an Undead for Devouring Plague.”

Section titled ““You need a Dwarf Priest for Fear Ward and an Undead for Devouring Plague.””

Truth: Both are trainable by every Priest at level 20 in the beta client. The racial spells were re-dealt. unverified Source: talentsforever.com JSON export; foreverchanges Priest page. See Priest.

“Stack Fire Mages for Improved Scorch” and “Winter’s Chill helps the other casters.”

Section titled ““Stack Fire Mages for Improved Scorch” and “Winter’s Chill helps the other casters.””

Truth: Both are personal buffs now. Improved Scorch raises Fire damage you deal; Winter’s Chill stacks once and buffs only your own Ice Lance and Frostbolt crit. The 2005 reason to stack Mages is gone. unverified Source: foreverchanges Mage page; classicwow.gg Mage overview. See Mage.

“Restless Blades is the Combat Rogue capstone.”

Section titled ““Restless Blades is the Combat Rogue capstone.””

Truth: It was shown at BlizzCon and is gone from the beta client; Flawless Execution sits in its slot. Guides on wow.gg, expcarry and even wowforeverbuilds’ own 09-17 pages still build around it. verified Source: wowforeverbuilds news (Restless Blades out); talentsforever build diff. See Rogue.

Truth: Furor was rebuilt: shifting into Cat returns the energy you had when you left plus 10 per second out of form. Classic powershifting is dead. unverified Source: talentsforever demo tooltip; leprestore Feral guide. See Druid.

“Ice Lance on a slowed target does triple damage.”

Section titled ““Ice Lance on a slowed target does triple damage.””

Truth: Only on a Frozen target (Frost Nova, Frostbite, Improved Blizzard freeze) or with a Fingers of Frost charge. Slowed is not Frozen. unverified Source: expcarry Mage guide; foreverchanges tooltip.

Truth: Beta had instant Auto Shot; it was confirmed as a bug and the 0.5 second wind-up is returning. unverified Source: wowforeverbuilds news headlines, Sept 23 to 24. See Hunter.

Truth: Not announced by Blizzard anywhere. Beta client strings show primary and secondary spec tabs with no cost or unlock level; four forum threads asking for it have no blue reply. unverified Source: wowforeverbuilds beta page; Blizzard forum thread 2357505. See Class overview.

“Blessing of Kings and Divine Spirit still need a talent.”

Section titled ““Blessing of Kings and Divine Spirit still need a talent.””

Truth: Both talents are gone from the beta trees. Divine Spirit is trainable at 30; Kings is either baseline or gone, unconfirmed. Either way you no longer bring a Paladin or Priest for a buff talent. unverified Source: zockify class pages (removed talents); talentsforever JSON. See Paladin.

“Weapon skill items are automatic BiS.”

Section titled ““Weapon skill items are automatic BiS.””

Truth: Weapon skill still exists, but “items with weapon skill offer less of it per item,” and racial weapon skill bonuses became crit chance. verified Source: Deep Dive recap.

Truth: Healing Potions (Minor through Major) are First Aid recipes now. Alchemy keeps mana potions, elixirs, flasks, transmutes and a “Discolored” healing line. Everyone levels First Aid. verified Source: Wowhead First Aid overview; foreverchanges Alchemy recipes. See Professions overview.

“Just use the Classic 1 to 300 guide.”

Section titled ““Just use the Classic 1 to 300 guide.””

Truth: 198 of 235 Classic Leatherworking patterns stop giving skill about 25 points earlier; the Runed Copper Rod needs a Mote of Magic, not Strange Dust; the Alchemy healing potion ladder no longer exists. verified Source: classicwowforever.com leatherworking; mmojugg enchanting guide.

Truth: Two community figures posted “guild banks at launch” on X. No Blizzard post says it; the Deep Dive recap does not mention guilds at all. Probably true, plan the bank alt anyway. unverified Source: MrGM and NoHitJerome posts; lfcarry states outright Blizzard has published nothing. See the charter.

Truth: A boost site’s number. Boost sites sell gold and inflate farming figures. Sell mats and bags in week one; the honest launch-week gold is in raw materials. unverified Source: lfcarry gold guide (flagged in research as implausible). See Gold making.

“GDKP is fine if it’s a private gold-split among friends.”

Section titled ““GDKP is fine if it’s a private gold-split among friends.””

Truth: Blizzard banned GDKP outright and said it “can overtake the traditional guild structure.” Enforcement mechanics are unpublished, and gold buying is promised permanent bans. Do not run gold-split raids on your main. verified Source: PCGamesN (Greenfield quotes); Wowhead 382968. See Loot systems.

“Camp buffs need the profession to receive them.”

Section titled ““Camp buffs need the profession to receive them.””

Truth: Only the placer needs the skill. Anyone who sits at the camp for a minute gets the buff. Camp buffs are exclusive with the matching class buff, so they do not stack with Blessing of Wisdom or Divine Spirit. verified Source: Wowhead camping guide; expcarry professions guide. See Camping.

“You need the Onyxia attunement” or “Barrow Deeps needs a Shaper’s Terrace attunement chain.”

Section titled ““You need the Onyxia attunement” or “Barrow Deeps needs a Shaper’s Terrace attunement chain.””

Truth: Two Blizzard developers: none of the launch raids require attunement. The Shaper’s Terrace claim comes from coachcarry.com, which also invented a six-boss Barrow Deeps. verified Source: But Why Tho interview via masterofwarcraft.net. See Raids overview.

“Molten Core opens December 9” or “Molten Core is in Summer 2027.”

Section titled ““Molten Core opens December 9” or “Molten Core is in Summer 2027.””

Truth: Molten Core is not a launch raid. The Summer 2027 roadmap has an unnamed “revamped iconic raid”; MC is the community’s guess, not a fact. The December 9 claim is from wowforeverguides.com, which also claims Hardcore has “Mak’gora duels with ear trophies.” Treat that site as vapor. verified Source: Blizzard Watch roadmap; Blizzard What’s Next recap.

Truth: The beta Legacy Challenges menu lists 8 encounters for Barrow Deeps and 13 for Hyjal Summit. unverified Source: https://blizzardwatch.com/2026/09/14/raid-bosses-world-warcraft-forever/ (datamined).

“Raids have Heroic difficulty and split lockouts” or “Honor has six tiers and Eye of the Storm is in.”

Section titled ““Raids have Heroic difficulty and split lockouts” or “Honor has six tiers and Eye of the Storm is in.””

Truth: Forever has one difficulty and fixed sizes with no flex. Lockout rules are unannounced. The honor track has the vanilla 14 ranks. world-of-warcraft-forever.wiki fabricated all three claims. verified Source: Sept 17 Q&A recaps (wowsod.pro, mein-mmo); Wowhead PvP overview.

“Onyxia is flexible size” or “every tier has a 40.”

Section titled ““Onyxia is flexible size” or “every tier has a 40.””

Truth: Fixed 40. Every tier ships a 10 and a 20; 40-player raids are exceptions, not every tier. verified Source: Tim Jones at the Sept 17 Q&A; Kotaku interview.

Truth: A streamer relayed from the BlizzCon demo that world buffs do not work inside raids. No blue post exists. The guild plans as if they are off and treats them as a bonus if they work. unverified Source: Blizzard forum thread 2350031; ElliotWood/Forever GitHub PR 91.

“Copy the Classic Era pre-raid BiS list.”

Section titled ““Copy the Classic Era pre-raid BiS list.””

Truth: “Every dungeon drop has been re-examined,” quest rewards were upgraded, and hit and crit were unified. No published Forever BiS list exists; wowforever.be and woweternity “BiS” pages are data-pending vapor. verified Source: Deep Dive recap; addons baseline audit.

“Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley are confirmed at launch.”

Section titled ““Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley are confirmed at launch.””

Truth: Expected, not confirmed. Wowhead’s guide lists four launch battlegrounds and developers discussed WSG at the Q&A, but no Blizzard text lists them. Darkspear Islands is the only one Blizzard has announced. unverified Source: Wowhead PvP overview; What’s Next recap. See PvP.

Truth: The WeakAuras team dropped Midnight support and has no path back; Forever inherits Midnight’s rules and stays synchronized with retail. Hekili ended January 20, 2026. verified Source: Wowhead 382921; addons baseline audit. See Addons.

“My Classic or private-server addons will load.”

Section titled ““My Classic or private-server addons will load.””

Truth: Forever uses the modern API: GetItemInfo, GetSpellInfo and GetTalentInfo are gone, WOW_PROJECT_ID returns the retail value, and Classic-only libraries silently skip loading. The official Questie has no Forever support; pfQuest is archived. verified Source: wowforeverbuilds addon breakage article; CurseForge project pages.

“Download the Forever addon pack from woweternity.”

Section titled ““Download the Forever addon pack from woweternity.””

Truth: woweternity.com lists “Forever Edition” addons with fabricated details (“Client: Forever v1.2.0”, “ICC and Ulduar”). It is a scam vector. Install only from CurseForge, Wago or GitHub, through WowUp-CF or the CurseForge app. verified Source: addons baseline audit, 2026-09-19.

“Details! works, it was updated on the 18th.”

Section titled ““Details! works, it was updated on the 18th.””

Truth: Updated for other flavors; no Forever flavor as of the audit, and it cannot read protected combat data. The built-in meter is the meter. verified Source: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/details

Truth: Developers said “maybe soon.” One fan site reports a swing timer option in beta interface settings and a native swing event; Blizzard has not promised it for launch. unverified Source: wowguide.net addons article; mmojugg UI settings page.

Truth: The beta uses _classic_beta_. The live folder is unconfirmed; one pre-beta wiki guessed _retail_. verified Source: addons baseline audit.

Truth: Working title. The name comes from a two-phase vote in October; the runner-up is the backup for launch day. See Name vote.

“The WoW Forever role in Discord means I’m in the guild.”

Section titled ““The WoW Forever role in Discord means I’m in the guild.””

Truth: It is the gate role that shows you the wing. Guild Member is granted by an officer after you join in game, and ranks mirror the game one to one. See Join the guild.

“We can be on different rulesets and still raid together.”

Section titled ““We can be on different rulesets and still raid together.””

Truth: No cross-ruleset grouping for anything, and no cross-faction grouping either. Raidify’s line: ruleset is “the single decision a guild cannot afford to get wrong.” verified Source: Deep Dive recap; https://www.raidify.app/wow-forever. See Rulesets.

  • Riding levels and prices, lockouts, master loot, world buffs, dual spec, guild bank, guild charter cost: every one is an honest “unknown,” and this page will be updated when a Blizzard source lands.
  • Whether the swing timer and cooldown manager ship at launch.
  • Which of the three battlegrounds beyond Darkspear Islands are in the launch build.
